Holidays and Feast Days

These are some holy days and saints' days in the Irish Rite and in general Christianity.

Fixed-date holidays

1 January

In addition to New Years' Day it is also the feast day of Mother Mary.

5 January

This is the feast day of Saint Charles of Mount Argus, who was born as Joannes Andreas Houben in the Netherlands. He died in 1893 anno Domini aged 71.

28 January

This is the feast day of Saint Conaire. She was an anchorite and died in 530 anno Domini, apparently at an advanced age. She is the patron saint of Irish sailors and Irish fishermen.

1 February

This is the feast day of Saint Brigid of Kildare, as well as the pagan holiday Imbolc. Saint Brigid is one of three patron saints of Ireland. She died around 525 anno Domini at the age of 74. She is also the patron saint of a great many other things, including County Kildare, babies, Leinster, and nuns.

9 February

This is the feast day of Saint Caireach Dergain.

15 February

This is the feast day of Saint Berach, patron saint of Termonbarry. He died 595 anno Domini.

20 February

This is the feast day of Saint Colcu ua Duinechda, known as Colcu the Scribe, was the abbot of the school of Clonmacnoise. He died 796 anno Domini.

16 March

This is the feast day of Saint Abbán moccu Corbmaic, who died around 520 anno Domini. He is tha patron saint of Adamstown in County Wexford and Killabban in County Laois. He has a second feast day on 27 October.

17 March
